The Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety (DADSS)™ Program:

First–of–its–kind, vehicle–integrated, alcohol detection technology
Passively detects a driver's blood alcohol concentration (BAC)
Prevents the car from moving if the driver’s BAC is at or above the legal limit of 0.08%
Technology must meet rigorous performance standards before it is installed in cars and trucks
Offered to vehicle owners as a voluntary safety option, like other driver–assist systems such as automatic emergency braking or lane departure warning

The Automotive Coalition for Traffic Safety (ACTS), a Virginia nonprofit funded by the world's leading automakers;
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA); and
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle's Highway Safety Office
The DADSS Program is one of the most important government and private sector partnerships in recent years. Public-private partnerships like DADSS have led to innovations that enhance our everyday lives, such as the internet, GPS, and microchip.
